some opsec tip: if you and the person you are DMing via chats both delete the conversation, it's gone forever. if one party deletes their half manually, it's also gone. like @WhiteAmericanEskimo who asked me to help him with something because he donated money to poast today whom i was going to tell I wasn't for sale but he deleted prior to my ability to do that
@WhiteAmericanEskimo tell me your email so i can refund it and get off my site man. you're literally browbeating me for ignoring you demanding favor for donating lmfao
@WhiteAmericanEskimo no i actually dont want you on my website full stop. because stripe broke our records between the ban and now i can't find you in our donations so tell me the email and I will make sure the cash gets to you as you get off my fucking website
@graf@WhiteAmericanEskimo completely unrelated: when DMs are deleted, assuming it's for a conversation between local accounts, are those positively deleted from the database? i.e. if antifags manage a breach that leads to a database dump, will DMs that we flagged for deletion be part of that haul?
so,, patron.poa.st for monthly recurring payments, give.poast.org for one-off payments and liberapay.com/poast are all functional right now. would be a shame if i woke up to the meter being filled again,, and the stripe account being full that would totally suck
@WhiteAmericanEskimo >Maybe the public brainstorming session the other day was fruitful?
not really. we've done this probably 2 dozen times since 2021. it doesn't increase donations, at all. nothing does because people in the circle that occupy this site don't want their identities tied to it.
the difference is we have shifted from donations to accepting payment for badges, we are selling a digital service and that is under their acceptable businesses as we are selling a digital good. this is a stop gap until i find a permanent solution by reaching out to providers and asking them to work with us.
So I make an effort to not be a dot commie so I went ahead yesterday and created a crypto account and put some money towards the upkeep of this site. If you aren't aware Po.ast was deplatformed by their payment service so the only way to support the site is through crypto. I ended up using an LibertyX ATM and the Mycellum wallet as suggested by @teknomunk. Here are a couple of thoughts and observations.
First if the ATM doesn't say Bitcoin, or the name of the specific brand (LibertyX in this case) or has a big bold button asking if you want to buy crypto something is wrong. The first place I went claimed to have a LIbertyX ATM but as far as I could tell it was just a regular ATM and that was because it was. It had been recently swapped out but Google Maps hadn't caught up yet. Luckily I had several other choices nearby. When I went to the next location it said Bitcoin and LibertyX right on the exterior and when I looked at the screen there was a buy bitcoin button.
Second go ahead and connect your wallet and your atm app before you even go to do it. Not a big deal but just easier to have that ready.
Third they take the fees out of the amount to buy. For example i bought $100 and the fees were $14 so I received $86. So if you actually want $100 you'll need to anticipate those fees.
Fourth something i've noticed over the years is people think if they can't send $10,000 there's no point to sending anything which is ridiculous. let me note this is a real world observation. I used to be the factotum and general dogs body for GMI and I came across this attitude all the time. I plan to send $20 a month and if each Gab refugee did the same the monthly expenses would be covered with some excess for the proprietors. Please don't be a dot commie the folks that run this place have created a cool place for us to parade our diagnosis and it behooves us to pony up to keep it running.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out. I'm mostly a moron but I have done it once so if I can help I will.
@WhiteAmericanEskimo@Escoffier the problem is it's a very small pool of people willing to contribute already, now they have to go out of their way to do it, that diminishes it. you can't get blood from a stone
@graf@WhiteAmericanEskimo@Escoffier That sounds pretty bad, you were getting 1.4k or so before the gabbers decided to destroy you. And now you only get 200? Fuck, i have to be blunt with you but it seems like it is over, unless you promote crypto much more. There should be ways to easily get crypto with a credit card and not so high fees.
@graf@WhiteAmericanEskimo@Escoffier Also i absolutely agree with a public leaderboard or something that promotes donating, anything can help when things are this desperate.
@WhiteAmericanEskimo@CleverMoniker@Escoffier@TrevorGoodchild the last time the old PO box address was given to a handful of people it ended up publicly posted by drama niggers and used to attempt to swat me by telling the police I was using it to send and receive anthrax and other chemicals. no fucking thank you
The systematic methodology of the enemy is to strangulate any potentially RW friendly communication sites by cutting them off from capital. Poast drew the eye of Sauron.
@TrevorGoodchild@graf@WhiteAmericanEskimo@Escoffier@graf I see, too bad. I guess crypto it is then. That Adrew tutorial seems pretty good and Graf should make a post with a summary and pin it. Also bring back the donation meter.
stripes communication with me was both succinct and also as fucking vague as possible but I think if we shift from "donations" to paying for the patron badge monthly, for example, we can skirt the "no donations" rule because we are selling a "digital good" (like poast DLC) which is covered in their "Acceptable Businesses" list
cant do it as poast tho, would have to name it something else. but its a consideration i have
