I was again reading a discussion of how evil is this morning. I guess it’s better than reading the mainstream news, but I’ve been using since 1999 and systemd since Arch migrated to it, and it’s just really meh for me.

The same thing with , there’s no week without sometimes even heated discussion. I’ve been using a Wayland desktop since forever now, and it’s faster, leaner and works much better than X11 right now.

I think these heated discussions are a cycle we can’t be without in the OSS community.

@icedquinn Outside Nvidia, it really is pretty working desktop in 2024. At least with Plasma 6. Nvidia needs to get their open source drivers somehow to a reasonable state. I wish also now when they opened up their drivers, the effort with nouveau and nvk brings us a mainlined open stack, so you can just install any distro and wayland together with games will just work.

Until that, I’m sticking with AMD.

@pimeys i occasionally run it and do a speedrun to see how fast until i break it. last time it was because OBS couldn't record the screen/windows.

i'm told they figured that out but then it only worked in KDE, and maybe it works in both now. i might try it after the reinstall since i plan on installing KDE

TIL: breaks most screen readers, as they are not not intended by design. (they need to interact with other apps)

Wayland is now the default in pretty much all gnome distros.

Orca has workarounds, but they are not merged and not fully working. (And a blind user can't built it without a working screen reader)

I'm not entirely sure if I got this correct, but it seems to me like the community once again booted the .
