I kind of want to start a competitor to stansdad.ch except I'll serve high quality AV1/Opus. At least 720p with no noticeable artifacting.
I don't want HLS/DASH or anything else complicated. Just use the browser's default player.
I also want the site to be fully static. Hugo would probably be the perfect tool to build the site and keep it updated.
I'll probably want a .su domain and a cheap vps in Russia. Run the site on a CloudFlare free plan and hardly any bandwidth from the actual server will be used and since it's just nginx serving static files a single core and a single gig of ram ought to be enough.
The biggest bottleneck will probably be disk space because even if I encode the episodes to 100MB that'll still be over 32 GB of video. Since I plan to aim more for around 250 MB per episode I'll need at least 100 GB of disk.
I could even add other shows like Family Guy, American Dad, The Simpsons, Futurama, King of The Hill, etc. At that point I'll probably need at least 1 TB of disk.
Anyway a fully static website with no ads and no JavaScript required for streaming high quality adult animation encoded in foss codecs and only requires around 1Mbps down to stream without buffering sounds pretty comfy TBH.
I could probably have South Park fully downloaded and encoded by the end of the month. This would give me a good chance to play with Hugo too.
