Feeling thwarted by the 404, I suddenly remembered there are plenty of curated feeds over in Collections for us to browse. Have updated one of mine to reflect newer communities.
To newly federate a magazine with Lemmy, search for it using the syntax !Polytopia@kbin.social in Lemmy's built-in search. This worked for me instantly when I just tested it on lemm.ee, after confirming that it 404s before doing it.
I don't agree, I think the current system is almost perfect, it just has one problem that confuses people, the number of notifications should not be a separate button, it should be part of the user button. Like the next example:
So, I want to see bch@lemmy.world, however, when opening it here it's just a 404. There are also a few other communities that when searched isn't present. Why?
They’ll show 404 until they’re federated, and they won’t federate until someone on Kbin requests them. So check back a few minutes later and it’ll probably load.
If you're encountering the Subscribed 404 error, this is a good time to revisit Collections (kbin.social)
