German customs detains ship loaded with sanctioned Russian uranium, lumber (kyivindependent.com)

The cargo ship, named Atlantic Navigator II, is registered in the Marshall Islands, but has a largely Russian crew. It was forced to stop in Rostock due to propeller damage, where it encountered trouble with German customs agents due to its cargo of sanctioned goods.

Violating sanctions is a crime, no? And at this juncture, are they not undocumented immigrants?

Personally, I’d rather not deal too harshly with the crew lest we deter others from surrendering their cargo, or worse, decide the they a better off attempting to complete their journey in an unseaworthy vessel. I’d prefer we don’t have a Russian oil & uranium spill.

Republican Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House of Representatives, reported that Congress’s priority is to finalise the budget of the US government for the year 2024. As this matter is nearly resolved, attention will soon shift to the aid package for Ukraine and its partners.
