Still some more features to backport from the previous version…

They are going to sending floppy disks with the unlocker next month.

Nice, time to undust my USB floppy-disk reader.

Finally!

I’ll be able to put one on my dog’s collar :D (don’t worry, he’s registered, vaccinated and microchipped already, we love our doggo)

Google should be forced to open up RCS to third-parties with this move.

Honestly all I want from my “smart watch” is to see notifications as they come in, and to see my upcoming events from my calendar(s) from a quick glance. That doesn’t require a powerful CPU or an hi-res LCD display.

I don’t want to do voice commands either.

You and me, comrade.

I went with the Amazfit Bip because it had a similar form factor and there were alternative firmwares for it, but after growing tired of fiddling with what is a hack-ish workaround, I decided to switch to the BangleJS2 when it came out. It’s not as polished as the Pebble Timeline UI, but it works well enough and it’s open-source.

I was thinking about the PineTime but what made me change my mind was the shipping cost. The thing cost $27, and they charge $30 of shipping where I live.

I should introduce you to the Bangle.js 2

You can even submit PR if you think you can improve the apps or even the OS on GitHub :D

That’s a good habit to have :)

They’re functionally the same as normal SIM, instead it is stored in a secure location of the storage (which can survive factory reset). In a way, it makes it a bit more secure as a thief can’t just yank out the SIM card to avoid being tracked (although it doesn’t defeat a faraday bag) or take it out to use it in another phone.

From a corporate device perspective it’s an interesting evolution though, since we can remotely provision an eSIM through our mobile device management platform. No SIM to handle from the user point of view, and they can’t take it out.

That’s kinda clever, and I’m pretty sure you could still make those work with something like NFC Tools / NFC Tasks. Now I’m wondering if there’s a cheapo clone of it on Aliexpress or something.,

I couldn’t find anything similar, sadly :(

Looks like my Google Home Mini will work well as a door-stop from now on.

[Bug] Overview button stops working, all the time.. (lemmy.world)

Right, so for as long as I have had this phone (Sony Xperia 5 iii), I have encountered numerous issues. However, one that I cannot for the life of me not figure out is why my Overview Button stops working. I dont know how to reproduce it, I’m pretty certain it happens at random, when pressing the button....

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

It rarely happens to me, but I had to reboot my Pixel 7 Pro (Android 14) to make it work again.

I’m using Ruthless Launcher.

Netflix considers adding in-app purchases and ads to games, report says (techcrunch.com)

According to The Wall Street Journal, the company has had discussions about how to make money from its games for months now, including in-app purchases, putting a price tag on more premium titles and placing ads on games that subscribers to its ad tier have access to. These methods are common (and effective) in the mobile gaming...

Capitalism, yet ruining another platform by trying to squeeze more money out of existing subscribers. It’s never enough.

A shake to undo gesture would be nice.

Meh, it was as confusing as Android Nearby Share being incompatible with Windows Nearby Share.

Two companies using a somewhat generic name for their own implementation of a system that is not interoperable.

I don’t think so.

It’s an assymetric cat-and-mouse game.

YouTube does it for revenue and has to spend money to enhance their anti-adblock system, while there is an army of volunteers online who will gladly defeat these enhancements for free with an impact on a massive scale.

The Internet has A LOT of volunteers

That was the case with the original Sync, no surprise here.
