one of the reasons i probably won't master shogi even if i learn it
i've played mahjong, chess, no one can beat me at checkers ever even when i throw blunders and sacrifices willy nilly, reversi, and go as well, but to master any of them would require dedication that i don't believe is viable both at my age of life to be profitable and intense focus that my easily distractable and variety desiring soul couldn't ever truly put all my eggs in one basket
at worst, i could reach a novice level, and at best, proficient enough that anyone who only knows the fundamental rules of any game will lose to me, in any type of game i play
becoming a professional shogi player for money... generalizing even to stuff like chess and go grandmasters, that's a dream that would be cool to fulfill, but not sustainable
would certainly be better than working fast food, but i sure as hell couldn't imagine making money playing games like these...
i can feel the pressure somewhat because i understand how tough it is, how it's looked down upon by family, and the desire to do what you love for a living
