@genmaicha@scathach honestly fr. the only time i wont judge anyone for having multiple monitors is if they had one eink and one normal (in my ideal world id only want a eink monitior so its not possible for me to watch any videos / games)
@tiskaan@genmaicha@scathach i hate 5 monitors at most at one time, all connected to a single rig. But they were small resolution and I just did it for funs.
Although, there are real-life cases that do require multiple screens. Mostly because software is shit and it's just easier this way.
@tiskaan@genmaicha@scathach yeah, it's something you get addicted to. Tbh the biggest reason for multiple monitors is that window managers today are total shit at literally the only job they are supposed to do, managing windows on screen. You can't even group arbitrary windows as tabs any more, not to mention other lacking features. Together with modern UI design being total shit, this leads to screen space being just wasted for nothing. As a result, you just need more of it.
It's basically the same process as any other resource consumption bloat in tech, be it memory or CPU. Modern software in 95% of cases does the same job as 20 years ago but requires more of the above, more RAM, more CPU, more screen estate.
