The antibiotic is to kill opportunistic bacteria in your lungs, it isn't necessary in most cases. If for some reason you can't cough up the mucus (gravity helps with that) ... you can get a bacterial pneumonia.
Zithromax is for that. But of course, it also gives rise to resistant bacteria.
