do normal people not understand contextual memory at all?

like if someone brings a chess board out and asks you about chess and you haven't played in five years or thought about it at all, but you see the board and are like "oh yeah, i remember this thing that is contextually attached to the chessboard"

and then they just, like, assume you sat there in a loop thinking of this chessboard the whole five years just waiting to comment on it.

is that.. how normal people work? is that why they think that's what people do?

in my experience grudges tend to be more like that. you just .. don't really think about the person, at all, for years, but if they do show up again you just happen to remember you dislike them. and people get mad at you for remembering why.

idk
