@s8n@MercurialBlack i've been aware of it for a while. i guess the devs officially blessed the guy who made the fan character tool. it has many hours of footage on youtube as well. so its pretty healthy.
its come up a few times in conversation buti usually shy away because its a bit rules medium and i'm kind of tired of onboarding rules
@icedquinn@MercurialBlack@s8n Lancer doesn't have much in common with D&D, tbh. Completely different mechanics and style.
I haven't played Lancer because the group we were organizing to play it ended up quitting before we started, but I read it and really liked the system. It seems pretty simple when compared to other mecha systems, which makes for quicker and lighter gameplay, and allows players to be creative in building their own mechas.
And the unofficial character creation tool is insanely good, way better than the crap WotC officially releases for D&D.
@Suzu@MercurialBlack@s8n i am currently tits deep in trying to make a competing CAD tool for the hero system. i compared it with gurps and it seems to be less insane. but thats also because i like that we can just do pacific drive or helldivers and just build sheets for it.
i have no issue conceptually with running lancer. i did offer it to my group. with the caveat that it has rules, so they will need to put in the homework, as "i only put in as much time as i'm at the table" won't fly with rules heavy systems
