@MordredSimp@MoeBritannica Part of me misses when subs were provided only by fansubbing groups, now it's a dead art besides a few small groups that get ahead of the bullshit.
@Psychotech@MoeBritannica It's corporate, Fansubs still exist and are sometimes superior to the actual Subs. Like the Komi-San Subs Netflix didn't even bother to translate the Black Board scene, but the fan subs did
@Psychotech@MoeBritannica Like I miss Translator Notes. Having a Joke based on Wordplay explained to me instead of it just being shown and/or lolcalized for me to be unfunny. I miss like "This is a reference to a Japanese Comedian" as a quick side card. It was nice

It flat out ruined the fansubbed version of Pani Poni Dash! where they popped up constantly explaining almost every. single. joke.
At some point it became some sort of pissing contest between group who could show off their knowledge of obscure shit in translator notes. Sometimes resulting in walls of 3pt text flashing on top of your screen.
If their optional, its fine. But back then none of the groups bothered to put them in a separate track or .txt file. It was all or nothing.
Same shit with how it became a pissing contest who could include the most obnoxious flashy karaoke effects in the OP/ED's. Hardsubbed of course to make sure the OP/ED is properly ruined. :nep:
Trust me, fansubs were not nearly the golden age as people make them out to be.
Also reminder that allot of fansubbers from then went on to become paid lolcalisers where they brought their unprofessional practices to the workplace.

@merchantHelios@MoeBritannica@MordredSimp@Psychotech You overestimate the quality of fansubs from back then. Groups would often rush subs for the "prestige" of being first resulting in shit translations and typo's.

I think you and whoever made the video in your post are far more bothered by translator notes than the average person, or I could just be significantly less bothered by them. Either way, the cream rose to the top
Like i said, If they put them in a separate track i don't care. Hell, some anime DVD's already did this back in the day.
Just don't shove them in my face.
