@meso@icedquinn@enigmatico@arcana i absolutely know what the safety is but (talking judt abt civies no idea abt the military) i dont know if the security it conveys is worth the downside of an extra mechanism that can fail or an extra step a non gun obssessed person like me needs to train for. if you are holding a gun, at any point in time you should be already doing like FOUR other things simultaneously as “safety” to ensure nothing you dont want to shoot gets shot. and you should do them so naturally that you dont even have to think about it and if you dont you should not carry a gun with you. i will gladly include myself in this, i didnt nd while i was at the range but i dont feel these things are ingrained in me enough to carry a gun out and about or even use it in self defense so if someone magically offered/allowed me a gun rn to concealed carry for self defense i would not

it does not matter whether you're retarded or not, accidents happen and safety switch makes it impossible to (except for freak cases but then your guns bad lol)

is it common enough for guns to AD when they are in a case or your holster or even when you drop them? that could be a reason for a safety and i would accept that if i found out thats the case, i haven't rly researched it. although my understanding prior to this thread was that this is INCREDIBLY RARE, ig except for like the meme320? but everyone ik doesn't want it for this exact reason and supposedly it's successor has it fixed
is it a reality of holsters that they will just have guns without safety randomly go off? as far as i knew & based on what @prettygood said this only happens with bad holsters. which, why would you ever get a shitty holster in the first place? like yea thats what the fuck i need right next to my appendix some holster that forces me to carry my "life and death"-emergency weapon in condition 1 for no real reason and tests its safety all the time cuz the trigger gets constantly snagged on it or some shit like jesus christ
is it super easy to train to use in a self defense situation so that downside is removed? that could be. i cant evalute that either because i didnt shoot much yet, nor trained for self defense. but careful, you need to quickly & reliably do it while youre scared that youre abt to get fucking killed, not just during practice on the range or dry firing at home
is it because youre scared of "just making a mistake" and accidentally fucking shooting someone? i dont think thats a good reason. that seems like an unacceptable mindset to have, "sooner or later i'll fuck up w/ the murder device i have w/ me in public haha its good tho we all make mistakes". you think sooner or later youll just accidentally point your gun at something you dont wanna shoot, loaded, cocked, finger on the trigger so you need a safety to have it not go off? that's nuts to me. i could not imagine carrying a gun in public to, if needed, SHOOT someone, without those stop gaps being so natural to me that i don't even have to think about them, just like i can pick up a knife and not even have to think about not stabbing anyone next to me
and if they arent that natural i need to spend more time at the range. and they in fact arent, because germany is CUCKED on guns so i barely ever get to handle them. but that is fine because the last thing i would do if i won the greencard lottery in may is go to the US, buy a gun and start ccing, being like "itll be fine, worst case my gun has a safety"
