He ruled it down to either the flu but too early to test positive or a secondary bacterial infection. An educated guess would tell you that it's probably a secondary bacterial infection from the timeline I laid out so he treated me for a bacterial infection and said if things didn't improve or got worse to come back in because it was probably the flu.
As for why he didn't order a bacterial culture so he could identify the exact bacteria making me sick is because 98+% of the time that isn't necessary to treat a bacterial infection. It's also expensive so insurance companies usually won't cover it until you've tried a couple of antibiotics and nothing is working or you're in critical condition and your doctor doesn't have the luxury of time to throw a few antibiotics at it to see if one works.
