I'm afraid I don't understand the purpose of seasoning the bottom of the pan. Is it just rust prevention?

@zero I guess I thought as long as you dried it off after usage that was unnecessary but I guess extra protection can't hurt

@RustyCrab i think after using it for a while, it would take off any protective layer and flash rust, if you didn't season the outside, maybe, maybe not

@RustyCrab @zero i think iron will oxidize over time even if not exposed to water. It just accelerates the process. However, heat also accelerates oxidation too so cooking with it will eventually start to show signs of rust, but it probably would take a while.
