It's a pretty common point to mention the reconquista took like 6 or 700 years to culminate. But i personally think the ups and downs of the Bagaudae is more appropriate. Both in their own time and in ours, appearing as some mix of bandit and revolutionary.

Oringinally just peasant self defense groups in the corners of the german part of the empire that popped up from both the loosening of imperial authority/obligation, and the constant migration of foreigners, they, over the course of a few hundred years, rose to defy, were castigsted, and rose again and again to self govern, both with and against the local nobility as time and place dictated, on the margins of Imperial society until ultimately the end of Imperial rule.
