They were, but it's not really necessary anymore so now the primary function of reCaptcha (at least on Google's own services) is to punish VPN users.

@Inginsub those are google captchas right? That variety takes me at least 6 retries and 10 minutes to get through now because they fail you multiple times no matter what and intentionally start putting up the slow time wasting ones

@RustyCrab I think so. the variety where the squares you click fade out for several seconds and get replaced with new ones is especially awful, because it will fail in almost all cases and send you to a fallback static captcha

I want to inflict a great amount of physical pain on the people responsible for Google reCaptcha. Maybe by having them select all the crosswalks and then waterboard them for as long as the slow tile fade lasts before making them select more crosswalks.
