MATCH #15: 6. LUM VS. 27. MARIN KITAGAWA
Not only did a vampire crush Rei, but Asuka essentially won the Asuka vs Rei pseudo-match.
Today, for the penultimate match of Round One, we have old school versus new school with a lovey-dovey ayy oni facing off a lovey-dovey gyaru otaku.
We introduce a real classy lady today. Besides Nausicaä, Lum is the only girl to appear in an anime show pre-90's; in fact, if you count the manga, Lum is the only girl the whole tournament who appeared before the 80's. Her continued presence online and off only shows her power as an anime girl. With the second season of the anime remake going on and going strong, Lum may be "old", but she remains relevant and impactful as ever. There is so much to say about Lum and her series that it would take a whole essay just to get through it all. She is a worthy contestant.
Lum is a Space Oni from the planet Oniboshi. Her father is a high commander of Oniboshi's imperial space forces, which he decides to invade Earth with. He chooses his daughter Lum to represent the Space Onis. To save Earth from destruction, a "champion" from Earth must beat Lum in a game of tag. The champion so happens to be the horn-dog jock and Japanese high schooler Ataru Moroboshi. By sheer dumb luck, Ataru beats Lum and accidentally "proposes" to her, starting a long romance that spans solar systems and decades.
** RR 26. Marin Kitagawa / My Dress-up Darling **
Marin is the new comer of the match. While her win was the weaker ones of the Royal Rumble, Marin still held strong in the hearts of Fedi frens as her infectious smile and bubbly attitude helped her win. She is no flavor of the month, with fan art and merch still pouring in, her manga still going strong, and a second season of the anime coming in a year or two. Her being new might be a disadvantage against the classic space oni, but we've seen stranger results in this tournament and Marin may have the beginner's luck necessary to beat Lum at her own lovey-dovey game.
From the Royal Rumble match:
"Every guy's fantasy is a girl that is simultaneous pretty, popular, and is a complete and utter nerd-dork. Wakana Gojou hit the jackpot finding his sweetheart cosplaying gyaru-otaku from Tokyo. Marin always shows a bubbly light whenever she appears on page or on screen, always the optimist and seeing the best out of anyone but the worst of people.
Even being a relative new comer, her influence in otakuism can be seen with girls like Asuna, Boryeon, and Owari and in the Fediverse with her many fans and her own personal picture bot.

Rei is the other half of the great Asuka vs Rei debate. In terms of the Fediverse, Rei is a weaker contestant than Asuka, not being mentioned as often, not accompanying memes. On the other hand, Rei did not enter the top sixteen seeds for nothing. She has more total nominations that Asuka and still has instant name recoginition even among non-anime enjoyers. Will that be enough to beat the strongest vampire of Tokyo?
Rei was created by Gendou Ikari using the remains of his wife Yui and the physical body of the angel Lilith. Being the clone of a mad scientist's wife and, Rei has little active personality, instead passively soaking in her surroundings while she figures out her place in the world. She may or may not be the key to the end of the world. Oh who are we kidding? It's not much of a spoiler anymore that Rei is the key to activate Third Impact and Human Instrumentality. That renders her a useless, eldritch plot device until the retconning sequels come out. Best thing Hideki Anno ever did was give Rei hair growth for the Evangelion sequel movies.
** RR 19. Nazuna Nanakusa / Call of the Night **
Nazuna is one swell gal. She tied Tatsumaki and Tsumugi for the most votes of the Royal Rumble, especially in a match with the most total votes of an Royal Rumble match. Her series is cool, fun romp, and perhaps objectively better than NGE. Nazuna may be relatively new for anime enjoyers, but she may be on her way to "classic girl" status in a decade or two.
From the Royal Rumble match:
"From the surprise hit series from the Summer 2022 season, Nazuna the vampire rules the night just as she hopes to rule this match and the tourney.
Nazuna is surprisingly strong among the vampire masquerade, yet never wishes to flaunt her strength; instead, she gathers it to do what is most important to her: becoming and remaining as free as possible. Her carefree existence amazes and enthralls the loner loser Kou Yamori who feels entrapped by modern society. Together they find freedom in the night and in love."
Holo continues to dominate the lead as we close the night. Suiseiseki gained a couple more supporters, but nothing that could overtake the Wise Wolf.
Some wonder how Holo could not be crushing the doll, but it seems there are far more oldfags among the ranks than expected, oldfags who remember both Rozen Maiden and the memes fondly.

MATCH #13: 3. HOLO VS. 30. SUISEISEKI
Hope everyone enjoyed that tech problems-caused break! We resume the match on what probably is a lopsided fight between a beloved wolf goddess and a feisty living doll known for an ancient internet meme.
We finally have the tourney favorite at long last. Holo may be third seed from technicalities, but she is the expected winner of this tourney for many Fedi friends. She has it all. She's beautiful. She's a monster girl. She's a good lover, wife, and mother. Her series is a classic in every media. Her memes are never stale. Holo is the perfect contestant.
Holo the Wise Wolf is the harvest goddess of the village Pasloe. Feeling the ennui of thanklessly watching a village that doesn't seem to need her anymore, Holo hops one day into the cart of the traveling merchant, Kraft Lawrence. Together, they travel the world with Lawrence teaching Holo about economics and salesmanship and Holo teaching Lawrence her wisdom and how to act less autistically, while they both fall in love. She also loves to drink, especially drinking apple cider, much to Lawrence's chagrin.
** WC 30. Suiseiseki / Rozen Maiden **
DESU! DESU! DESU! DESU! DESU! DESU! DESU!
Two wild cards came from the same Royal Rumble match. One was Wiz and the other is the meme living doll from Rozen Maiden, Suiseiseki. That shows the power of monster girls on the Fediverse. Unfortunately, Suiseiseki is the weaker wild care of the two, and worse still, she has to face the toughest opponent. That does not mean she lacks support. A few Fedi neighbors remember both Rozen Maiden and fondly and by gosh by golly they will try to help their little doll win.
From the Rumble match:
"The third Rozen Maiden and Jun Sakurada's precocious living doll, Suseiseki took the internet by storm when her series came out in the mid-2000's, a time only old fags will remember.
Besides the memes from her favorite Japanese phrase, Suseiseki gained popularity for her beautiful design and her huge feisty personality in one small doll girl package."
With only three more hours to go, Anchovy seems to be the projected winner, barring spirit shenanigans on Team Kurumi's part. Will Kurumi fans let the Pasta Fascist drive all over their clock yandere?

MATCH #12: 10. KURUMI TOKISAKI VS. 23. ANCHOVY
We are almost through Round One of the tournament, with only four more matches starting with today's match. We had a snoozer with the classic red-headed tsundere beating the classic cute youkai. Today we have a cool yandere facing a pasta tsundere.
"Ara ara Shido-kun!" Date A Live is a cool series that combines several seemingly distinct genres and tropes into an awesome package: mahou shoujo, rom-com, shonen action, mecha, lolis, aras, and the works. With such a strong variety, you have plenty of girls from this series alone worthy of being in the tournament: Tohka Yatogami, Origami Tobichi, Yoshino, and more. The series revolves around girls with power known as Spirits who threaten the world unless one special guy named Shido Itsuka takes the girls on dates and seals their power with a kiss.
The most popular of girls from Date A Live is the wielder of the time spirit Zafkiel, Kurumi Tokisaki, the twintail sporting a clock eye. Called "the Worst Spirit" for her brutality and misanthropy, Kurumi nevertheless carries a strong sense of justice using her spirit powers to help Shido and the gang, albeit aloofly and independently of the good guy organization, Ratatoskr. Toward the later part of the series, Kurumi reveals her romantic side to Shido as she learns there still a few good humans out there. Kurumi is the yandere with a heart of gold, which is why she is a contestant in this tourney.
** RR 23. Anchovy / Girls und Panzer **
Besides Darjeeling, Anchovy is the only GuP girl to get in the main tournament. Anchovy performed very well in her Royal Rumble match, having secured a ten point lead over her GuP rival, Yukari, soundly defeating the battle meido Hayasaka, and crushing the gun autist of Sword Art Online, Sinon. Can Anchovy use her superior Italio-Japanese tactics to face a crazy and in-love Battle Spirit?
From Fedi's leader of the Spice and Wolf fan club, WolfGirlsInWheatField and his Royal Rumble descritption:
"Anchovy (Chiyomi Anzai) is from the manga and anime series Girls und Panzer, where she is the Anzio Girls High School Sensha-dō (tank competition) team leader. Anchovy, nicknamed Duce by her fellow team members (a reference to Benito Mussolini), has guided her team to the top of the Sensha-dō rankings, in spite of their often subpar tanks in comparison to other schools.
She is aggressive and a natural leader when it comes time to battle with other schools, although Anzio is often bested and taken advantage of by its love of cooking pasta and other Italian dishes and ignoring Sensha-dō, something Anchovy struggles to control and which she sometimes enables.
Outside of Sensha-dō, she is kind and affectionate to her friends and even rivals, often asking if she can make some pasta for them. Duce! Duce! Duce!"

MATCH #11: 7. ASUKA LANGLEY SORYU VS. 26. BOTAN
While Mugi-chads may have won, their girl was given heat by the British who made sure the sensha-do match was not an easy one. Today, we have two 90's girls who will face off and see who has the better classic touch.
Perhaps the predecessor of all best girl polls on the internet can stem from the most well-known and oldest "best girl" debate in all of otakudom: Asuka or Rei? Ever since the show aired in the 1995, the two girls represented a fierce. The debate may have exhausted itself and turned into a bit of a meme by 2020, but anyone who respects the anime medium must pay their dues to this legendary battle.
In NGE, Asuka is the red headed, hot headed Eva pilot with daddy and mommy issues. She is competent in piloting skills, but her out-of-control passion and leads to issues in battle and out of battle, both with superiors and her peers like Rei and Shinji. Despite her temperament issues, Asuka can be very helpful and will often push you to do your best. Anyone who loves Asuka must learn to tame the wild beast before they can get to her heart.
** RR 26. Botan / Yu Yu Hakusho **
If you have been paying attention to the tourney, you will notice that less than a quarter of the girls are from before 2000's, less so if you discount the Evangelion girls. Still, there were a few 80's and 90's girls too good to leave on the forgotten shelf of girls.

according to the preview for Episode 82, Botan pseudonymously has the world high-score on Ms. Pac-Man. her favorite holiday is Christmas 🎄"
Darjeeling is an interesting girl. Among the girls of GuP, she is not mentioned often in our side of the Fediverse, unlike Erika, Anchovy, and Yukari. And yet, Darjeeling managed to enter the sweet sixteen who automatically entered the tournament, while Yukari and Anchovy had to fight in the Royal Rumble and Erika did not enter the tournament at all. That shows the power of a few users who knows how to legitimately game the game and do whatever is permissible to win. Can that same spirit help her against a fan favorite?
Darjeeling is the commander of the St. Gloriana Girls College's sensha-do team. Embracing her inner Brit, she remains calm and collected, even in the most tense of tank battles, inspiring her team mates . She loves tea and is often seen drinking tea even during sensha-do matches. Graceful and kind, she hopes that her disadvantage and be turned around for this match.
** RR 18. Tsumugi Kotobuki / K-On! **
We finally reached the first winner of the Royal Rumble. Tsumugi is special and not just for winning the first Royal Rumble round. She ties Tatsumaki and Nanzuna for the most votes throughout the Rumble. She is also the official mascot for the Mugicha Club instance, where the tourney is officially host.
Tsumugi is a lively and dorky girl and keyboardist of the Houkago Tea Time band. She and her friends go through high school experiencing many soft adventures.
What a match! During the night, both girls have continued going back and forth without either finding a large enough gap to say they have a proper lead. Tomorrow will be very exciting.

MATCH #9: 2. TOMOKO KUROKI VS. 31. HITORI "BOCCHI" GOTOU
Rest in peace, Nagatoro-san! After the Bully got bullied by the fluffy tail, we continue with the banger matches with one that tries to answer the simple question: Which girl is the most "She's literally me for real, for real"? In one corner, we have a popular "unpopular fujoshi". In the other corner, we have a popular "unpopular paramecium". Which will literally be you? Vote! Vote! Vote!
Before Hitori Bocchi and Gotou Hitori Bocchi, before Ryan Goesling memes, before Trump, there was Tomoko Kuroki and her series Watamote!
Tomoko, at least for the first half of the manga series and all of the anime, represented the . A fujoshi in the fullest sense, except for the yoai fan part, Tomoko spends her life in her head, living many perverted fantasies and the otaku life while trying to ease into anybody's circle at her school. With such a life, 4chan (before it turned into Cuckchan) anons, and by extension the internet, quickly latched onto her as their mascot for losers like them.
Tomoko has apparently become less like a fujoshi and more popular in-world as the series progressed, disappointing many fans, but that has not changed her initial popularity
** WC 31. Hitori "Bocchi" Gotou / Bocchi the Rock **
Bocchi the Rock may have lost against K-On!, but the Bocchi the girl certainly did not lose in the heart of her supporters. She still got in the tournament as a wild card, yet as we have seen, wild cards can do massive damage to high seeders. With her show airing in recent memory and being one of the rare "better than the manga/LN" shows, there is high expectations for the Rock.
Bocchi hates social interaction. Besides her family, everyone seems like a monster out to get her. Yet she manages to have so many talents despite this crippling . She's beautiful. She's a proficient musician and master guitarist. Her family adores her and she her family. With these talents, she forms a relationship with three girls from a high school band. From there she began the arduous and epic journey to overcome her crippling social anxiety, a greater journey than any national epic or high fantasy.
More support for the fluffy tail has come pouring in since four hours ago. Everybody on the Fedi needs the mofu mofu and sweet pampering. Still, counter-support for Nagatoro has also come, but nothing that could surmount that cute Kitsune.
We shall see how much more support both girls get tomorrow, but until then,

Wew! WEW! Who could have expected this? There was some bias for Senko before this match, but no one expected her to crush Nagatoro this much this quickly. A few souls, led by Jimmy Carter's official Fediverse ambassador, dared to fight against the fluffy tail tide for the love bully's sake, a noble fight, but that will probably do little.
