God damn, just use LibreTube. It has a sleep timer, as well as many other advantages: No ads, no tracking, it uses the Piped API so you don’t have to connect to Google servers, and it’s fully open source and available on F-Droid: f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.libretube/

They’re also on Mastodon and they even have a Lemmy community: !libretube

It works pretty well for me. I don’t have any problems on piped.video, piped.adminforge.de and piped.ngn.tf

You can also just disable the Piped proxy in the settings, effectively making it function like NewPipe

Andromxda,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You can also disable the Piped proxy at Settings -> Instance -> Disable Piped proxy

Yeah, as far as I’m aware, it just runs a copy of the NewPipeExtractor locally, that’s the same stuff that’s used in the Piped backend.

Tubular is a fork of NewPipe with SponsorBlock and ReturnYouTubeDislike integration. LibreTube is another great option, which uses the Piped backend. They also have a Lemmy community, and you can check them out on Mastodon: fosstodon.org/

In the EU, this is illegal. As an EU resident, you have the right to subscribe to any service in another EU country.

You might want to check out InnerTune or RiMusic for YTMusic, they are open source and don’t spy on you, unlike Google’s proprietary garbage

Damn I seem to have pasted the RYD link twice, now it’s fixed

The app is great. Also great that it’s FOSS and available on Accrescent. But the name and the icon are (in my opinion) absolutely terrible.

TL;DR: GrapheneOS is the best for privacy and security.

Andromxda,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Because the Pixel unfortunately is the only secure Android hardware platform

Andromxda,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Oh yes there is. ARMv9 MTE, Titan M2 secure element supporting Android Verified Boot, StrongBox (source.android.com/docs/security/…/keystore), Weaver, Hardware key attestation and Insider attack resistance, as well as a programmable USB controller that allows the user to fully disable USB-C (while the device is locked) on a hardware level. Pixels also have hardware support for full Wi-Fi MAC address randomization, and all radios are completely separated from the main system through IOMMU. I recommend this video, it’s a pretty good breakdown of some of the hardware security features + the GrapheneOS privacy/security improvements.

Weird. I never had a single issue with the fingerprint sensor on the 6a, it literally works every time. It’s just a little slow, it could maybe be a little bit faster. But you know what’s a bad fingerprint sensor? Touch ID on older iPhones. That shit is terrible, never works for me.

3.5mm jacks don’t cost much materially

They take up quite a lot of space (for a phone) that could otherwise be used for a larger battery. I’ll happily take a few hundred mAh of battery life over a headphone jack. I find bluetooth headphones much more comfortable to use anyway. But I understand that some people prefer wired headphones.

By removing the headphone jack and saving space, everything can be laid out in a way that creates more room for a larger battery, many manufacturers do this.

Just look at the inside any modern smartphone, it’s full of battery and other stuff, basically no empty space. The iPhone 7 was the first generation without a headphone jack, it still used the old case design though. Look at the iPhone X which was completely redesigned, it’s just marginally larger than the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 (they all use the same case design) but has a much larger battery. They went from 7.45Wh (1960mAh) on the iPhone 7 https://blogs-images.forbes.com/aarontilley/files/2016/09/inside-iphone-7-front-back-1200x801.png

to 10.35Wh (2716mAh) on the iPhone X. https://news-cdn.softpedia.com/images/news2/ifixit-teardown-reveals-what-s-inside-the-iphone-x-518369-3.jpg

No. Most of the iPad lineup uses LCD displays which are relatively thick. The headphone jack only fits in old iPads, because of the large bezels. On newer iPads, the headphone jack would need to go under the display, making the entire device much thicker. With OLED, you don’t have this problem, but Apple either uses LCD or Mini-LED for iPads.
