While it doesn’t take much to be 100x cheaper than Nvidia, the excess compute produced by these transformer geared ASIC’s could lead to an AI boom analogous to the difference between a modern smartphone vs. the “computers” used on the Apollo missions. That will be super cool.
I have some experience using ASIC’s for different purposes and it is just crazy how much efficiency they have over general purpose chips when it comes to both initial cost and power consumption.
If this works out, we could see the currently exponential AI growth get “exponentially exponential” or something.
Anyone who has any wisdom whatsoever would at least reject the title “futurist” and i would expect fart smelling to be the least egregious offense of these self titled so and so’s.
The first thing I thought of when seeing this picture was “my aunt has two box tortoises in her backyard, and they camouflage pretty well, what about her tortoises?”
What is your source on that? I heard some news about china making some breakthroughs on sodium ion batteries but I am waiting for independent confirmation on that because, well china has let us down more often than not with “bleeding edge” tech.
I was thinking molten salt would be a better energy sink for the here and now.
