Made a post to /c/Fediverse about Burggit shutting down and it sparked an interesting discussion about the current state of Lemmy

There was a previous post on that community about Burggit shutting down, but because it just linked to the announcement without explaining any of the details it didn’t get a lot of attention or generate much discussion, with most of the comments simply consisting of “loli bad”....

the strong-arm bullying by popular instances was easily the most annoying thing about the “Lemmy-verse”. The auto-defederate list that those instances controlled was an obvious example of power-mad witch-hunting people being in charge. I’ve even heard once or twice of smaller instances being forced by the popular instances to follow their rules and subscribe to the list if they don’t want to be added to the list themselves.

I share your sentiment that Sharkey has been much more relaxed and fun! Only a week after I started using it, I stopped caring if Lemmy Burggit would even come back online. The users are more playful and friendly, and there’s none of that circlejerk/hivemind moderation cult over there. it helps a lot that sharkey itself feels much better put together than lemmy does. so with that, I too say goodbye to Lemmy, and hello to Sharkey.

Burggit is dead, long live Burggit!

wow! that’s a concrete example of exactly what I mean. despicable behavior.

Where do you plan to go once Burggit shuts down?

I already get most of my lolisho content from Baraag, and I mainly use e621 and Twitter to look for yiff, besides occasionally browsing Pixiv as well. For the pregnancy/birth content that I like there’s still Pregchan and the Preggophilia forum. I also have an NSFW Reddit alt, but I barely use it since they don’t allow most...

just the Sharkey instance (dill.burggit.moe) pretty much. I never cared too much that burrgit was specifically a link aggregator like reddit anyway, so this isn’t too big of a deal for me. once i got used to the way sharkey works, I actually preferred it anyway.

if you’re considering microblog instances like baraag and shota.house, what’s wrong with burggit’s sharkey instance? Do you not like Sharkey specifically? You can follow baraag creators from there if that’s what you wanted to do on baraag.

basically that place IS pretty similar to mastodon. it’s just a different fediverse micro-blogging application.

if you’re familiar with mastodon, there’s a UI mode that’s similar to mastodon. After making an account, on the left bar, click on “more” then “switch UI” then select “classic”. that makes Sharkey look a bit more like mastodon. If you have any trouble after that, I’m @diff over there. I’m still learning some things myself, but I got all the basics down.

Burggit has a Sharkey instance at dill.burggit.moe. It’s sort of “replacing” the Lemmy instance here. the fact that some users here seem unaware of this and instead think that the entirety of Burggit is shutting down, makes me think there should be some prominent banner or pinned post clarifying in the title.

You already have a Pawoo account, so it’s the same kind of application as Mastodon, with a timeline of posts. if does have a different UI though.

yeah the logged out page was a bit blank when I joined. I didn’t really know what it would look like until I made one.

as long as the Sharkey instance is able to stay up, I’ll be okay. I’m a bit sad about my communities and the posts I made, but that’s mostly all. I hope not having to worry about lemmy anymore will make things easier for you guys

The Sharkey instance and it’s not even close. It has about 4 big issues I can think of at the moment, but other than that it’s great! I like the playfulness of the interface too, with all the animations and sound effects. it feels fun. I don’t know how Sharkey compares to other similar software that’s popular like Akkoma though.

I was gonna say “big rigs would like a word” but the video itself made a good point about big rigs. I’ve never seen such an actively anti fun “racing” game before so I’m impressed. cool investigating at the end there too blobcatenjoy

Since it doesn’t have much “character” of its own, it goes well with many kinds of foods while also being generally agreeable to most people’s tastes. That’s probably the main reason it’s so popular.

I don’t care for it either, but it’s fine if you also add salt

the dangers of AI are real and serious, but I don’t like how they’re being used as an excuse by companies to avoid releasing models under an open license or to give those models “alignment” training that makes them incapable of performing many basic tasks.

Retroid 4 Announced

The pro has a Dimensity 1100 chip in it, think it's worth it?

my experience says “probably not” but it looks like it’d be enjoyable for when you’re out and about. the price is low too.
