@Nixie you are kidding but one guy on one of the US hacker cons (I don't recall) was actually testing this kind of hard drive destruction. Incidentally he was also the guy who got convicted after a fire broke out and killed a kid who he hired illegally to dig a tunnel under his house.
Not much of a ham/rf achievement but I've retuned the CB radio I fixed in april. It's now only ~600Hz off from the channel raster. This was a german CB using the "5" channel raster, Poland uses "0" so I had to knock down the xtal frequency. This is a bad way of doing this, but the only way on radios with this asic :cacospin:
In april I replaced a shorted diode and transistor which brought it back to life.
Ok, its not the only way to do it on the CBs with this ASIC (LC7185) but I do not feel like making up a board that will synthesize the right frequencies for the mixers. That's like 50 hours of work to make a kit that lets me retune german CBs... amazingly useless project that would be.
