My network seems slow today, so I decided I'd reboot the Vodafone shitbox router to see if that would help. I tried logging in to the web interface and... nothing. No reaction. The console shows uncaught errors...? Did they push an update that caused the slowdown and the weird login fail? Did something crash? Strange...

Wanted to export all my Telegram chat data, motivated by the recent news. So you would expect that this works like with most services - you request your data, they compile an archive server-side and send you a link a while later. Nope! It all goes client-side via the Telegram client.

I tried exporting all my chats including media first, but that just got slower and slower with each file, until it just got stuck on a 61 kB photo over night.

@val it's usually very good, but it didn't want to play along with the cheap "modified sine wave" inverter. It blew the fuse. After bridging it with some solder wire, it worked tho 😅

I love using a DLL in C# and then finding out it apparently uses global states internally. Wanted to instantiate two CAN connections, but if I then try to close the second one after closing the first one, I get a nice memory access violation 🙃

@foone I was gonna say "just use ẞ" but depending on encoding, that might also add another byte or two I guess? Then again, is this really the only case where the uppercase variant of a character would require more bytes than the lowercase variant?

I saw a rail replacement bus this weekend that had an actual "SEV" (rail replacement) livery. So either they had a some long-time construction work going on that warranted this effort, or they actually need to do rail replacement often enough that this is worth doing lmao

I think yesterday was one of the most depressing tech support sessions I ever had.
The topic doesn't actually matter much but the absolute lack of basics was just crushing. And I had to do all that over the PHONE! :neofox_cry_loud:

I completely forgot that I have my bootloader on this controller and with every system reset, it executes

And I think the bootloader uses the timer too, and while it does stop it before switching to the main code, it does not reset it 🤦‍♂️

okay so this isn't the full story, I just spent like another hour desperately trying to figure out why my timer refused to generate any interrupts when the code was started via the bootloader

well, you see, I wrote the code I'm woprking on now before I wrote the bootloader. Now that I have the bootloader, I'm coming back to it. I did a little thing in the bootloader before jumping to the application code to ensure nothing would mess up the process.

Can you guess what it was?

Annoyed as fuck because I realised that the WS2811 LED strip has the possible cut points too far apart. Bought new 2812 strip now, which means I also need to use 5V instead of 12V so the entire 160€ worth of power supply and LED strip is now useless and I spent another 200€ on the new LED strips. Also fucking annoying that now I only have about two weeks from when the LED strip arrives to when I need to have it done

Gonna have a lot of software work to do until GPN. The delay caused by the unfitting LED strip (really this is my own damn fault) doesn't make it easier. But I can already try to do some of that work at this weekend, since what I'm building for GPN is similar to another project of mine :3
