So I had some problems on a remote Raspberry Pi system that uses an LTE USB modem for internet. It kept dropping out. It seems to be caused by a bad USB connection. So I implemented a crude workaround by rebooting the thing every night at 03:14 (It's several hours away from me so I can't easily get to it physically). I quickly noticed in the Grafana dashboard that there is a gap in the data every night between ~03:00 until ~06:00. Uh-oh.

We solved it with a custom timestamp file, updated at shut down and restored the clock from it as an "early boot" task

The moment I saw the RPi didn't have a CMOS battery, I implemented it preemptively

How the fuck did my PhotoPrism log output just continue while I restarted the reverse proxy server? what black magic is this

@cato I hope the black magic of carefully managing worker threads during the restart to allow very short service gaps, which some servers can pull off

I hope it's not what is 50-50 for me personally: the "black magic" is the network path not actually containing all of the devices/processes you think it does. That is the more ominous possibility
