"I just need to implement a bootloader" he said, unaware of the fact that the Cortex M0 core lacks a vector table offset register, making switching between two user programs a lot harder 🫠

@cato whoopsie...

depending on how complex/timing-sensitive your code is: Maybe relocatable code is an option?

manawyrm,
@manawyrm@chaos.social avatar

@cato When you're exporting the symbol table from your compiler along with the binaries only to live-patch your code before executing -- then things get messy x)

I just tried to email the clinic and quickly encountered my first problem while trying to make an appointment. Hovering my mouse over the [send email] button. I noticed that my browser only showed [javascript:;], well… that's bad, my browser can't open a mailer because it is running in a separate Jail, I usually rely on manually copying the mailto link into thunderbird… in the source code I found an email address "bc-grezva[at]puxzo.qr"… it was encrypted using rot13… ugh

@cato @das_xandra It's one of those "oldschool" mechanisms, one of the common CMS back in the day did that by default to try and give spammers some trouble. I think it was old versions of Typo3, which did that.

Of course totally useless today and just hurts people which are using accessibility tools m)

is it normal for vddgfx of amdgpu to fluctuate and drop to 731mV?

manawyrm,
@manawyrm@chaos.social avatar

@mntmn @gsuberland dmesg as well (that's why I mentioned the serial)

On consumer boards, that might not work very well though, shabby firmware development causes MCA/MCE to not be reported properly on many, many boards.
(not to mention that you're not running ECC memory!)

Oh yes, I forgot a step: Run Memtest86+ for an hour, minimum! Ideally, keep the inside of the PC warm (50-60°C) with a space heater, etc.

manawyrm,
@manawyrm@chaos.social avatar

@gsuberland @mntmn You wouldn't believe how many enterprise boards don't properly report memory errors...

We have a little resistor on a stick now, which you can use to short out data pins on a running machine to cause a fault on purpose.

@scy Someday I'll need to do a "hardware crimes" post with my favorite crimes against poor defenseless hardware :P

A bot? An AI? Just a silly reporter? Another fine waste of maintainer time.

@Purple @bagder That "Certainly!" at the beginning of the second answer is just such a dead ChatGPT giveaway!

manawyrm,

@cato @Purple @bagder Absolutely. I'd bet a hundred bucks it's ChatGPT. (I'd even be willing to wager it's v3)
