No wonder I'm so miserable. My IQ is somewhere between 120-135 and my work (restaurant server) is 30-40 points removed from what I could (nay, should) be doing.

There is also a prevailing theory that high-IQ folks are more likely to be depressed because they can construct more complex logical structures in their heads, and this can be a weakness because it's easier to justify your own worthlessness. Meanwhile lower IQ people can get out of it easier because their psyche (and hence self-esteem) is more malleable.

@binkle Yeah. I have a problem of thinking too much and not doing. I used to sit around getting high trying to "think" myself out of depression, but obviously that didn't work. I need to just do all the shit I've been procrastinating on, mentally painful though it may be. Back in school I was incredible at doing the meaningless academic work, but I struggled in the soft skills department and couldn't network or find any jobs or internships. These days I'm more social and can talk to people fine, but I lost all my hard skills and can't demonstrate proficiency to meet even half of their ridiculous standards.

^^^but that right there is exactly my problem. I gotta just shut up and quit moping

I had Windows 8 for the longest time and just upgraded to 11. No idea why modern OSs like to "animate" every single object's movement with this fluid sliding motion. Zooming in on images for example. Windows 11 (and 10) likes to show the image getting zoomed in, but there's zero practical purpose for it except slowing down the user experience. In Windows 7/8 it zoomed in instantly! And that was part of why I didn't get Windows 10 until it became problematic. It feels like it's dragging its feet to do what you want because it's too busy trying to fascinate you with all this "high tech" modern garbage that only midwits like.

It also takes forever to load file thumbnails. I can't remember a single time Windows 8 had to load the thumbnails. They were just there.

And no I won't switch to Linux. I would if I was cool but I am not.

@graf Tell ya hwat. I replaced my CPU/cooler before updating and now I got the old one lying around. It's got me contemplating what I should do with it and I'm tempted to splurge on even more parts, and then I can build a second PC out of the old one.
