Honestly I don’t really care whether some website works more like Reddit or Twitter. What I mainly liked about Burggit was the focus of privacy and free speech, so I might consider joining the Sharkey instance.
What other instances does it federate with? I like that Burggit didn’t censor RQD2, and although the method to post from Mastodon to Lemmy is a bit scuffed if it still works with Sharkey that’s honestly fine by me.
The only instance we defederate is Meta’s threads.net, and we intend to not defederate any other instances, barring any illegal imagery that comes across our feed.
I’m not 100% certain that this is how to do it, but for Lemmy instances, I believe you should be able to trigger a federation with your desired community by searching @communityname and following that account. Since to the fediverse, the threadiverse just shows up as individual accounts for each community.
The domain expired for a few hours yesterday due to a now-solved account balance issue with the proxy used to register the domain on behalf of burggit staff.
You were seeing a parked domain page during that time.
Hmm… Hard to say. I’d hate to make anyone feel dread to keep this instance running. But I’ve dreamed for years of a loli-friendly site that functions just like Reddit.
I just signed up for Sharkey, and it’s pretty neat. Still feels like I have a lot to learn about it, though, and about federation in general.
I’m open to either one, as long as I’m sure it’ll be around for a while. That’s probably most important to me…
The Sharkey instance and it’s not even close. It has about 4 big issues I can think of at the moment, but other than that it’s great! I like the playfulness of the interface too, with all the animations and sound effects. it feels fun. I don’t know how Sharkey compares to other similar software that’s popular like Akkoma though.
I’ve been testing out sharkey and tbh, I don’t like it. I always thought it was gonna be a stopgap before the instance come back up, also I’m not really a fan of the web ui, and it’s been very hard to find a iOS app that is compatible with it because of the confusion mastodon-but-it-isn’t nature of the whole thing
With what is posted, splitting the content up even more isn’t useful, specially coz there’s a lot of empty communities
I am unfamiliar with sharkey. I value this instance because it is literally the only loli friendly lemmy instance that I know of, and I think there needs to be a space for that on lemmy.
But if sharkey is a better use experience and has better content I could change my mind. Are there open source phone apps for browsing sharkey?
Please let both. The kbin instance was not much easier to maintain? This instance is the only one who supports loli content(in reddit format I mean). Would be very, but very empty for us who wann draw and share loli art without the risk of banning?
Federation is pretty much broken from Lemmy to Mastodon/Misskey/Pleroma and their respective forks. So all we can get is this watered down content from the Lemmyverse from the few instances that still haven’t figured out our existence, as well as the ensuing defederation that will surely follow once they’ve found out about us. From where the fear came about being discovered by others? Baraag hosts lolies, ALOT (not being a problem, since I support the freedom of speach and art without shity morality for a drawing), andfor that mastodon instance was not a problem being discovered. Are you afraid that someone will report this instance with the fucking reason of hosting UNEXISTING ILLEGAL CONTENT WHICH IS NOT IN FORM OF DRAWING which will nuke every server you manage and eventually you? I can understand very well your feeling.
But againg, my opinion (since you asked us), is to have the both worlds because the burggit is the only instance as reddit, whcih supports the nieche content which others does not have the balls/clit of steel to maintain it. Hat off to you
To me Sharkey and Lemmy serve wildly different purposes, so I don’t think they’re really directly comparable.
Regarding the Sharkey instance, there isn’t really anything there I want to post and there aren’t many people there I want to follow, so it’s hard for me to find much of a use for it.
It’s not 1:1 to traditional forums like Lemmy/Reddit, but there’s channels for which you can group posts following a specific topic. I wish this feature was more at the forefront, imo. You access it by going to More -> Channels
From a content UI perspective I guess this is why I would lean in preference towards Lemmy. It’s pretty quick to figure out how to locate and browse similar content.
That said I will be up front about not having dived deeply into Sharkey to figure out all the potential that’s there to make it do things in a way I’d prefer. Though perhaps that’s a point against it as well, since it may take more work to get it functioning like that.
I had never used Sharkey before today. I just created an account on the Sharkey instance and I don’t really know how to use it. If I’m correct in assuming Sharkey is similar to Mastodon, I don’t know if I’d use it much. I know I don’t post or comment very often on Burggit but I’ve always felt that the “Reddit” style social media sites like Lemmy work better for discussions and it seems like people are more likely to not just see but also respond to your posts.
Tbh, give me a good sharkey app and i migrate instantly, the web interface is bugged and counter intuitive for me for some reason :/ I’ve blocked 3/4 of lemmy and the most stuff that gets to me is reddit reposts now. Especially the people from .ml and .World instances are mentally disabled its somehow worse than reddit was. (never going back there however)
Even my other like 20 accounts went mostly silent even though i have some more time now…
Any app that supports the Mastodon API is compatible with Sharkey. So apps like Husky, and Fedilab will work with it. You can also click More > switch ui on the webui for alternate layouts that you can try.
That being said, there’s a markup language guide for doing some fancy stuffs. Embedding images doesn’t appear to be in here, but what’s in here still looks neat:
Seems to not work on mobile (even with mouse, yes i have a mouse for my phone) i think i just need to upload them directly 16mb isn’t bad i don’t think i will exceed that with most images.
