The US and Europe have already been in the shitter for decades, Japan on the other hand would just experience what it would be like going from spotless cities with well behaved people to negro central, so hopefully the shock can make them react more quickly and drastically.

In Greek the term "Xenia" is used to describe the relationship between a guest and host. I think most rational people are very selective about the guest they let in their home, but somehow it's different when you scale to the national level.
American lets too many guests that do not provide anything to their host country. At the same time host country does not have the proper resources to care for all it's native citizens, and certainly not enough for guests.
The only guests i really see as almost completely self-dependent are the Amish and they manage to provide to nature produce and carpentry. On the other end is Hasidic jews a another luddite group that's completely dependent on it's host country, yet manages to violate or alter laws to get away with child "marriage" or leaving slaughtered chickens to rot on the streets.
