@ChlorideCull @cato re "pointless": If Boeing had used torque wreches that documented how many bolts were tightened at what angle with which torque (and had properly monitored those logs), there would be a lot more 737MAX in the air right now.

(this said, if you manufacture IoT devices, pointless or not, you need to make them secure, and maintain their software for as long as anyone is using them.)

@ysegrim @cato sure, but that doesn't require it to be connected on a wifi network, ready to be poked by anything on there.

Just speak serial over some
exposed pins, and have a dock where it lives between shifts! That's what we did before we decided to stick wifi and bluetooth into everything!

@ChlorideCull @ysegrim that's a good solution tbh

@cato Even if unconnected, I found the alignment of this news with the news about "Boeing planes found with not-properly torqued bolts" interesting

Also, the manual of these things if you are curious: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2460051/Bosch-Rexroth-Nexo.html?#manual

EDIT: holy F Mastodon, that's a fragment on the URL, not a hashtag...
