I just tend to check things in order, cpu is quick to look at. If your cpus are getting pegged, that could cause the error. They look like they're hardly working though.
You could check logs and see if they give any clues.
If not, then I'd check to see if postgres is optimized. Pgtune is a start, though not the end all be all.
