@RehnSturm256 Yeah, back when I was septic the doctors checked me for literally everything under the sun….except pneumonia. They did an X-ray, saw there was fluid in my lungs and said to my face, verbatim; “There’s some liquid in your lung, which could be a sing of Pneumonia, but we think it’s benign.” They sent me home the next day.
We asked them if there was anything we should look out for incase we needed to come back and they replied very cocky and confidently “You won’t need to come back.”
At first I was feeling great, then things starting to go down hill again after about 2 weeks. Once I got a temp of 104 we called my doctor and they said to go to the ER.
The doctor at the ER said, “Your right lung is surrounded with fluid right now and you have necrotizing pneumonia” Basically, the liquid was sitting there so long that my lung had started rotting away. They had to cut up the rotting part of my lung and hose it down. This left my lung kind of like swiss cheese. It was leaking both fluid and air. So, they had to put in 3 chest tubes to make it so the air would leak outwards and not inwards. (I’ve supplied a picture, but be warned it’s kinda gruesome looking.)
Usually, they’d be able to plug the holes using excess fat, but because I was just septic, I was still skin and bones. So, that’s why they had to put in the tubes. The tubes were in since October, slowly getting removed one by one as I slowly healed and went through some procedures to help with the process.
Got the last tube out 2 days ago.
So, the Pneumonia was entirely preventable, but you know the liquid was probably benign. No sense in checking to verify.
