@cutemaxxer yeah I don't know anything about that but american media gets almost everything wrong all the time. I wouldn't put much stock into the details. There is no feedback mechanism for when they are wrong so there's no reason to improve.
@RustyCrab@deprecated_ii Wasn't Tor created by the glowies to begin with? I mean, they made it so their agents and other flunkies in foreign countries hostile to the Gay American Empire could still have unfettered access to our subversive info. Why wouldn't it have backdoors and other vulnerabilities built in from the get go?
@john_rando@deprecated_ii it's open source and everyone who uses it takes multiple years to get caught if they ever do at all. In contrast to normies using their naked ip that get caught instantly. It's the best option we have right now until I2P or something similar improves.

Also I wouldn't rely on Tor's anonymity too much, but most of the people who get caught do so because they don't shut their mouths and talk too much (something basically 100% of us on fedi are guilty of, but all I have on my HDD is a million futa cocks so I'm safe).
@john_rando@deprecated_ii upon reading the article, despite his name, it does not appear he was ever even using Tor. He was using VPNs, google voice, Telegram and Tox for communications (which leaks your IP address to people you're chatting with :niggaskull: )
It took them 2 years to catch him using miserable opsec. What the fuck are the feds even doing
@john_rando@RustyCrab@deprecated_ii I've always imagined they would only build it with some kind of kill switch, but there is the idea that the early 90's glo-nigs working on that stuff weren't expecting to use it against their own. Any backdoor for them would be a backdoor for their friendlies, too.
And in the end, all it takes is one high profile leak like that and the entire project is for naught, nobody would trust it, and you generally want people to use tools when you spend money and time making them from scratch.
I think it's secure enough, you'd have to really, REALLY have a huge target on your back in order to get their approval to blow up tor just for you. Most of us boner our opsec anyways, so they end up snagging you when you screw up
@WashedOutGundamPilot@deprecated_ii@john_rando the only thing that keeps me from saying that it's all parallel construction gayops is that it takes SO LONG to catch these guys. You'd think they'd artificially lengthen it some to alleviate suspicion but 2 years? Same goes for all these darknet markets. Most of them go off without a hitch.
