an editor with the nice keybinds of emacs but the small conveniences of vim would be goated

@icedquinn :wq isn't the most convenient to type out at times

@kirby @icedquinn vim (not sure about neovim and such) lets you just ZZ instead of :wq<RET>

@Ukko @icedquinn oh cool

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@kirby @Ukko neovim is vim with ancient code removed.

also emacs is a lisp machine you can rewrite the keys to do anything

@kirby@lab.nyanide.com avatar

@icedquinn @Ukko tbh the emacs lisp aspect of emacs really makes me want to actually use emacs more, i see all the cool shit people do with it and i want to get in on the fun, the only problem is that it's lisp

@kirby @Ukko these are your father's parentheses

@kirby @icedquinn There's GNU Zile which is written in Lua and unlike Emacs it doesn't have a proper GUI, a big enough community writing everything for it, 500 built-in libraries, but, also, it isn't ancient ugly lisp, and doesn't have 500 built-in libraries or 5 different graphical frontends

Ukko,
@Ukko@akko.disqordia.space avatar

@kirby @icedquinn Correction: extensions for it are written in Lua instead of Lisp

Ukko,
@Ukko@akko.disqordia.space avatar

@icedquinn @kirby Nvm looks like it completely dead and nobody knows if it's a vala or a C or a lua thing 🥀

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@Ukko @kirby :blobcatgun: lisp isn't ugly

scathach,
@scathach@stereophonic.space avatar

@icedquinn @Ukko @kirby elisp is really ugly

Ukko,
@Ukko@akko.disqordia.space avatar

@icedquinn @kirby But Emacs Lisp is

@icedquinn @kirby Yea I am not certain if the ZZ counts as "ancient nonsense shortcut", at least wherever I learnt about the ZZ said that it doesn't work in neovim (or was it kakoune they were talking about? idk). Never tried there as I primarily use emacs so the only vim I touch is the preinstalled one :D
