@rlier23 That's a cute opinion
Did nintendo give it to you?

Kyonko802,

@Vidmastereon @rlier23 I watched the video and it's actually about how physical preservation fucking sucks, and we can't trust companies on the digital front so piracy and emulation are the only choices they're giving us

Tamamo,

@Kyonko802 @Vidmastereon @rlier23 Had he not used a shitty clickbait title and thumbnail i would have actually watched his video.

Kyonko802,

@Tamamo @Vidmastereon @rlier23 it would be better to title it something like "physical preservation isn't working" or something along those lines

Tamamo,

@Kyonko802 @Vidmastereon @rlier23 I guess its the new algorithm chasing trend since everyone is doing those shitty misleading clickbait/rageclick titles on jewtube now.
Like that one vid "Anime is DYING" that keeps getting shoved in my feed and its just a vid about bitrot in psychical media.

Kyonko802,

@Tamamo @Vidmastereon @rlier23 On the subject though, there's also an argument to be had that default preservation of a title is inferior as well. Ar Tonelico 2 for example. Why preserve the half-assed NISA translation when you can have a better translation or play it in Japanese? If it got released on the playstation market for some reason it would be the NISA version with maybe that one game breaking bug removed. Why would I play that one when I can emulate the superior version?

It's funny seeing people talk about how important physical is while disc rot is catching up with us already.

Tamamo,

@Kyonko802 @Vidmastereon @rlier23 The games themselves are best preserved digitally for sure. Especially now that you can buy enterprise grade 10TB HDD's for less than $200 enabling even the average joe to store multiple consoles entire libraries.
Stuff like covers and manuals that is a little more tricky though since scanning stuff properly is a pain in the ass and becoming a lost art.

The console hardware itself is the biggest pain in the ass. While great strides are made in FPGA's to perfectly replicate the weaker 16bt colsoles, it will be a long ass time before we have (affordable) FPGA's that can perfectly replicate a PS2 with all its quirks.

Kyonko802,

@Tamamo @Vidmastereon @rlier23 I remember it was real big deal when the PS2 emulator finally got the fog and lighting in SH2 and SH3 right.

You also get interesting stuff like Dolphin emulating wii games leading to a whole new market for newly made IR bars and wii controllers.

Tamamo,

@Kyonko802 @Vidmastereon @rlier23 The PS2 was a really really unique piece of hardware that took a very different approach.
Even today allot of titles are glitchy as hell on PCSX2 because of it.

Ars Technica did a great article that went into autistic detail how the PS2 works compared to a traditional PC if you're interested.

Moto_Chagatai,

@rlier23 What's OP's explanation for preservation being bad for video games?

M_39,

@Moto_Chagatai @rlier23 i guarantee the video involves some measure of him gargling nintendo's cum
