Let's assume, for a moment, that global warming is real and it is an existential crisis.

Do you think that novel interventions that could wildly disrupt the atmosphere couldn't possibly have unintended, catastrophic effects?

That the "cure" could be worse than the "problem"?

Experts don't have a great track record accounting for "unintended consequences".

@FortyTwo the way global warming shills act spills the beans on the whole thing being a scam

they take the wild leap from what's supported by evidence, burning fossil fuels releases CO2 that causes a slight boost to the greenhouse effect, to their silly fanfiction of "therefore the world will end next tuesday and everyone will die if you don't move to a pod in a 15 minute city and eat bugs and have buttsex with infinity niggers".

@skylar So concerned about CO2, when are we going to address the greatest contributor to global warming -- water vapor!

@icedquinn @FortyTwo i think the top thing to worry about is depletion of the ogallala aquifer
without irrigation, growing corn and soybeans in the high plains won't be possible. if they don't replant the native prairie grasses (they won't), it's dust bowl 2 time, only this time way more toxic with decades of pesticide residue built up in the topsoil.

@skylar @FortyTwo i'm not really sure why we don't have water cleaning meebs/algae. seems like the most obvious shit to do.

@skylar @icedquinn another solution might be to remove the requirement for ethanol in gasoline

In higher concentrations, ethanol becomes a more potent pollutant, is less energy dense, increases the cost of animal feed, increases the cost of food (corn is a staple for many cultures) and would require less corn to be planted (no subsidies for corn for energy production would result in less corn being planted/grown).

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@FortyTwo @skylar doesn't tinkering with gas run afoul of the petrol cartel?

skylar,
@skylar@wolfgirl.bar avatar

@FortyTwo @icedquinn it's also said to be bad for fuel hoses and gaskets and seals. plus it absorbs water from the air when pure gasoline doesn't.

@skylar @icedquinn @FortyTwo ethanol is deleterious to all that stuff especially in older cars as they existed prior to its mass implementation and thus weren't engineered for it in mind. Ethanol is absolute gunk, bio diesel is infinitely better but the US doesn't touch diesel with a ten foot pole

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@kf01 @FortyTwo @skylar because diesel woke up dead from the gas cartel lmao

FortyTwo,
@FortyTwo@noauthority.social avatar

@icedquinn @kf01 @skylar diesel used to be cheaper than gas and congressional regulation ruined that

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@FortyTwo @kf01 @skylar maybe but Diesel as in the actual guy was murderred

@icedquinn @FortyTwo @skylar all actual solutions to environmental ills like Nuclear Power are smothered in the crib because Climate Change/Global Warming/etc Policy as a concept is about societal control, it's not about finding a solution. Talk to any Climate Change shill about nuclear power and you'll see how they'll try to squirm out of the subject or just repeat Chernobyl or Fukushima.

skylar,
@skylar@wolfgirl.bar avatar

@kf01 @icedquinn @FortyTwo i like when they just come out and say that nuclear power can't solve the climate crisis because it only produces clean energy but doesn't dismantle systems of oppression or whatever

kf01,
@kf01@breastmilk.club avatar

@skylar @icedquinn @FortyTwo the truth is this and it's actually the two weaknesses of Nuclear Energy, the people saying that know that adopting widespread nuclear energy will not only solve environmental ills, but implicitly demand two things:

A High Trust Society so the science behind the plants don't get Rosenberg'd or hijacked by terrorists and blow up

A Highly Educated Population to maintain and expand the plants

Now I'll let you figure out why some actors wouldn't want that.

FortyTwo,
@FortyTwo@noauthority.social avatar

@kf01 @icedquinn @skylar both really good points

As difficult as it is to make anything, it's even more difficult to make it simple and safe.

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@FortyTwo @kf01 @skylar the biggest problem is that nuclear power plants are a cover for making bombs.

icedquinn,
@icedquinn@blob.cat avatar

@FortyTwo @kf01 @skylar you never see shit like north korea going "but we need power" and people sell them thorium (non-weaponizable radioactives.) it's always uranium, cause they want them sweet refined plutonium bombos.
