Maybe if the government allowed people to purchase these drugs through foreign pharmacies, foreign labs would produce them. Socialism and "public safety" kills people.
By the time you see a doctor etc, markup on generic US Pharmaceuticals is roughly 2000% or more. If the government directly taxed people that much, they'd revolt, but because the costs are hidden via regulatory schemes, everyone thinks it's normal. To call it the failing of capitalism is a bit short sighted. The market is controlled and you're limited to domestic sources.
obviously the market is not free, but I don't think you can implement a version of capitalism that doesn't end up where we are with capitalism. Like, this is the end game of capitalism, no matter how many times you start over with it

European countries, which had an immensively more active communist presence since the 1950's, have no problem importing foreign medicines.
What you're seeing here isn't "socialism" nor "public safety", it's just monopoly capital protecting it's profits
@Humpleupagus Socialism will plan for drug production, in a similar manner to how private companies already do, but with the aim to maximize the health of the public, instead of profit.
If it can be locally produced it will, if it cannot it will be imported.

@Humpleupagus@moffintosh i mean, this is why i dodge mandatory insurance and go to private clinics. They will see you as soon as possible. Next day in the worst case. Isn't it crazy how private enterprises are more efficient than whatever governments come up with?
