I’ve been looking at Resin printers lately and I’ve come to the conclusion that they are all terrible in different ways, and that many of them could be good if a modicum of effort was put in.

@jamie i kind of ignored them at the time because prusas were open hardware back then. i dunno if anyone has worked on open resin printers.

or if thats even possible. i know they do something involving lasers and that can get tricky.

@icedquinn I actually don’t really know how resin printers work, lol.

Like the LCD screen flashes or something, then the illuminated pixels solidify the resin.. or something like that

@jamie supposed to point a laser at different parts of the resin to cause it to harden, then lift the model out of the soup and repeat until done.

they make models of good detail. and can only be done with particular materials that work like that.

the svalboard guy talked about looking at using it for printed peripherals but he wasn't satisfied yet if their UV sensitivity would cause problems with things you leave out on your desk exposed to sunlight

@icedquinn Whats the LCD screen for? Like its the main event, not the little one with the GUI but the 10 inch 14k one?

@jamie i didn't know they had those :blobcatdunno: i didn't pay a lot of attention to them because they didn't seem to be open hardware.

maybe someone figured out you didn't need a laser and could get away with a sufficiently bright screen.
