Oh man the year long Royal Caribbean Ultimate World Cruise is shaping up to be a wild time! It hasn't even been 2 weeks and apparently a cast system between the decks is already beginning to form. This shit is going to be wild. You definitely will see this come up in the news in the next few months.

baraposter,

@sjw Oh hey! I work for one of their competitors. This'll be fun to watch.

sjw,
@sjw@bae.st avatar

Since there are no public access cameras onboard I'm trying to find all the content creators onboard.

This poor woman has no idea what she's just gotten herself into. Oh man watching her for the next 9 months is going to be fun.

@Kerosene @Kyou @PanzerTan @PsyOptssoldier @graf @yockeypuck hey @baraposter how accurate do you think this is? I think all of this is going to happen. I'm so happy there are so many content creators on this boat. This is going to be great!

baraposter,

@sjw
>how accurate do you think this is?
As someone who works in the cruise industry, very. Let's break them all down.
>someone is getting pregnant
Invariably.
>they won't be able to stay on the ship
This is industry standard because if you've never been on a cruise ship (and I assume most of fedi hasn't), the medical facilities are not equipped to handle delivering a baby, or god forbid anything worse.
>someone will try to "fetus deletus"
Now I haven't seen anything in our company's records that indicate this has happened, but it's highly plausible, cruises like these are often booked years in advance
>a thief on board
Again, highly likely, especially if it's a "connected" stateroom and someone is careless
>a kid will go missing temporarily
There are specific procedures in place, at least for my company they can pull the logs from the kid's wristband, which shows were they were (you use the wristband to get into stuff like arcades, you use it to pay for drinks and stuff, etc.) and that makes it so much easier. Not sure about RC though.
>remote workers, someone will lose their job
I have a feeling that anyone whose remote job is latency intolerant probably isn't going to be doing that work on the ship. It's satellite internet which means it can be disrupted quite easily, by anything from clouds, to a storm, to the sun being between the path of the satellite and the ship (cf. Sun outages).
>there will be a viral outbreak
This is less common than it used to be, and thankfully due to strict sanitation protocols set by various organizations. My company in particular has not had a single Norovirus outbreak since 2011. However due to the nature of cruise ships, outbreaks spread incredibly rapidly.
>one person trying to claim it's a hoax
This one I'm calling bullshit on, if you've ever been in something like a college dorm and you've seen something viral/bacterial sweep through the dorm — it's not a hoax, it's actually kinda scary.
>couples getting together, breaking up, cheating
This is an almost guaranteed occurrence on any long cruise. This also ties in to №1.
>influencer drama
This will 100% be manufactured, I guarantee it.
>someone will fall off the ship at least once
There are protocols in place to handle this on the ships — I cannot say more due to NDA restrictions.
>developing a gambling addiction
Hi, former casino staff here, we know exactly who the gambling addicts are, and despite that it makes us more money to enable them, it's legally risky so we generally gently push them to the less risk-heavy games.
>mental health is going to deteriorate
Hey fun fact, this is why we encourage people to get off the ship on port days. Trust me, even if you're just getting off the ship and wandering around the city for a few hours, we strongly encourage that.

baraposter,

@sjw The median age for most of the clients is ~45, if you include only customers who pay for at least half the cruise that pushes it to 60. @Kerosene @Kyou @PanzerTan @PsyOptssoldier @graf @yockeypuck

@sjw @Kerosene @PsyOptssoldier @baraposter @Kyou @PanzerTan @graf @yockeypuck @MasterSimper why is it that every time a cruise line pops up on the news, its over something completely batshit insane?

graf,
@graf@poa.st avatar

@ferrarilegends @sjw @Kerosene @PsyOptssoldier @baraposter @Kyou @PanzerTan @yockeypuck @MasterSimper because the idea of being at sea with thousands of people is batshit insane as a concept

baraposter,

@graf working as onboard "wet" staff was exhausting, you don't get paid enough, everyone is at some level of inebriated even at 6am, except the staff and children. You don't get paid enough, buuuut, sometimes you get a day or two at whatever destination, now I work "dry" staff, and it's certainly less exhausting @Kerosene @PsyOptssoldier @sjw @Kyou @PanzerTan @ferrarilegends @yockeypuck @MasterSimper

@sjw Man, real world rich people are so lame. Imagine what you could do if you were in their position
>steer ship to the middle of the pacific in the dead of night
>remote announcement early in the morning in every room
>"dear passengers, starting now the battle royal will officially commence"
>"also shrimp will no longer be offered in the evening buffet"
>turn all CCTV cameras on and stream it online behind a paywall

sjw,
@sjw@bae.st avatar

@Kerosene these people aren't that rich. Some solid their house to afford this.

Kerosene,
@Kerosene@bae.st avatar

@sjw I'm talking about the cunts who own the ship :hankhell:

baraposter,

@sjw You forgot that these cruises sell out extremely quickly. My company is almost sold out for 2025, and the wait list for 2026 is occurring soon. @Kerosene

PanzerTan,
@PanzerTan@poa.st avatar

@sjw are they stuck somewhere or are they finding out the hard way that trapping 1000s in a floating metal box for a whole year is a bad idea

sjw,
@sjw@bae.st avatar

@PanzerTan no they're not stuck. The different cabins are just forming casts.

graf,
@graf@poa.st avatar

@sjw i cant imagine being on a boat with 1000s of normies for a fucking year I would kill myself

    @Kyou @graf @sjw There are adventure cruises where you sail to the Arctic or the Antarctic that are probably cool, see places you'll neve see any other way, but pottering around the world in a giant floating apartment filled with old people and respiratory diseases is a strange idea of fun.

    graf,
    @graf@poa.st avatar

    @yockeypuck @Kyou @sjw I would rather catch a ride as a deck hand on an icebreaker headed to antarctica (which is something you can do) than do that

    sjw,
    @sjw@bae.st avatar

    @graf @Kyou @yockeypuck you can also pay to hitch a ride on a cargo ship

    sjw,
    @sjw@bae.st avatar

    @graf I imagine that's going to happen. I really wish there were cameras on the ship we could watch.
