They're little bean shaped carbuncles near the surface of the fruit, in the pinecone scale-looking bits. If you look hard you can still find them, they're vestigial. I think the evolutionary pathways is that monkeys would grab the whole pineapple, carry it away then bite off and spit out the seeds to get to the fruit
@StumbleDonkey@graf@ImperialAgent@VIcFury Same with bananas, the domesticated ones are seedless clones called Cavendish bananas, whereas this one here is one in the wild. The reason behind the Cavendish being seedless is because it is the genetic successor to the Gros Michel, aka Big Mike banana, that was devastated by Panama disease. Unfortunately, the Cavendish later was found out to be just as susceptible to the same disease and one day could receive the same fate as its predecessor.
