a7,

i get to finally be not broke for like a day tomorrow

RustyCrab,

@a7 how are you a software engineer and broke all the time? (I was for a while but it's because I was running a startup)

pasture,
@pasture@btrfly.social avatar

yeah, i've heard a soylent diet is really expensive

a7,

@pasture na i think ive mentioned my situation to you before, issue is im in a large company, strict educational requirement, moved from help desk to development, dont have a degree, cant get title change, and have an arrest record atm so cant just go looking for a new job.

pasture,
@pasture@btrfly.social avatar

just gotta get that founder grindset on ⚒️

i don't have a degree either, I get that it's probably difficult to move up with the arrest record though

a7,

@pasture yeeeee, arrest record is real problem, i have 1k dollar certs and 2 years experience in projects now, so finding a new job for this specific kinda work should probably be easy once i dont have to worry about background checks.

@pasture @RustyCrab @a7 the food paste has become oddly expensive

a7,

@RustyCrab I am a code monkey for a consultancy firm - that has a strict hierarchy, that was suddenly moved from help desk to development. Basically i dont met the educational requirements for the organization and im waiting on my arrest from psychotic break to be expunged (should be like next 6 months) to find a job that doesnt have these retarded policies to pay me the same wage.

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@a7 so they literally just said "we'll drag in the guy from helpdesk into the project and not give him a raise"?

a7,

@RustyCrab i got 3 dollar raise :burnt_out:

a7,

@RustyCrab but yes basically i should be making about 2x as much, instead im getting standard raises and pay for my recorded position within the company.

a7,

@RustyCrab also the company has notoriously shit pay in general

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@a7 I didn't get treated that bad, but my company also gave me a fake promotion by dropping requirements for the title from SE III to SE II. They did that literally just for me. I'm the only one in the entire company that holds that title. Obviously no pay increase but sounds more impressive on a resume I guess.

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@a7 it's such a bizarre situation. They literally had a software managerial role available, nobody was using it, so they dropped the seniority requirements, made me a manager and then gave me no team to manage. The office politics of this company defy explanation.

sneeden,

@RustyCrab @a7 erm, it's called "quiet promotion", chud

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@sneeden @a7 :povgun:

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@sneeden @a7 oh I like how that's an actual term and not something you made up as a joke
:povgun: :mokouDead:

a7,

@RustyCrab @sneeden holy shit its real, i was quiet promoted

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@a7 @sneeden we really need :niggacryingbasketball:

sneeden,

@a7 @RustyCrab Some think-tanker coins a term during brunch with their fake working buddies. Then journalists spread the term and seep it into wider consciousness. Then it becomes real.

Never forget HR are the jews of the workplace.

a7,

@sneeden @RustyCrab hr are fucking evil

a7,

@sneeden @RustyCrab when i went to HR about this problem, their solution was: "well we can move you back to helpdesk"

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@a7 @sneeden 6 more months man

RustyCrab,
@RustyCrab@clubcyberia.co avatar

@sneeden @a7 I mean I'm sure that happened a lot without assistance of the term

sneeden,

@RustyCrab @a7 Yes, but the term legitimizes the occurrence. Naming it turns it from something that may happen in some workplaces to the newer tool to be implemented everywhere.
