@deprecated_ii I was recommended them because I like periphery a lot but to me they just sound like <insert generic metal playing out of a headbanger car here>
@deprecated_ii the style I'm fond of seems to be heavily palm muted metal (meaning a lot of notes have a hard cutoff rather than smooth falloff like most guitar playing) known as djent. Apparently it's "not a genre" but it sure as hell sounds like one to me
@deprecated_ii@RustyCrab One of the saddest things in music has been watching Primus slowly devolve from genre-defining madness to generic stoner rock slop
@RustyCrab@deprecated_ii Which album were you listening to? Imo they didn't really solidify their djent sound until Nothing (2002). They've been around since like the mid 80s I think.
@RustyCrab@deprecated_ii Nothing and Obzen are usually considered their best albums. Check out Rational Gaze, that was the first song of theirs I heard while watching headbanger's ball. Fucking great music video too.
@Ripsnort@deprecated_ii one barrier for me is I love the instrumentals but man I'm really not a fan of the vocals of this genre. That's mostly the thing that kept me away from metal my whole life.
@RustyCrab@deprecated_ii Yeah, it's more about aggression then melody or vocal range. That's what usually puts off my friends whom I try to introduce to metal.
