You know what confuses me?

A dispatcher can send cops to the wrong house, they go in and kill the residents who were defending themselves, and it's the cops who are prosecuted and not the dispatcher.

@realcaseyrollins Why would the dispatcher be prosecuted? Its the cops that decided to open fire on someone who was innocent, which is the criminal offense. It is not a criminal offense to misspeak an address.

@freemo If they had gone to the right house, and a homeowners shot at the cops when they broke in, and if a cop killed that person in response, would you still hold this position?

I like to think about these situations from the perspectives of the folks involved. The homeowners who aren't wanted by the police probably think they're being intruded upon, and rightfully so. The police officers think they're going into a dangerous situation with a likely capable criminal, also rightfully so.

@realcaseyrollins @freemo
That’s why no knock warrants are wrong.
They should have to clearly identify themselves before any shooting begins.
If it makes policework too difficult for them they’re in the wrong line of work.

@Murray_N

I dont exactly disagree...

My issue isnt with no knock warrants directly (surely im against them in general) bur rather that cops have qualified immunity and can carry them out, along with some murder, and not get a murder charge.

Take away qualified immunity, everything else fixes itself.

@freemo @Murray_N @realcaseyrollins i wonder how many no-knocks get issued in those states where its now legal to shoot police on your property

@freemo @Murray_N @realcaseyrollins there is a lot of weird shit in this thread but

> the dispatcher

the dispatcher might very well be misinformed as well. they just process requests from command and inform the field units. their job does not entail verifying the pedigree of orders beyond if they came from an official channel.

the person with the gun on the other hand is the one trained in use of force, firearms safety, etc. it doesn't matter WHERE they are because they are trained on the rules of engagement that are always true regardless of where he is.

> no-knocks

these are a product of the war on drugs, so are illigitimate by default.

this is to say nothing of the fact that they are intentionally scheduled at times to optimize disorientation of civilians, whom are then expected to act in a beyond professional capacity against trained executioners.

@Murray_N @freemo @realcaseyrollins my official opinion on that matter is if they are going to act like goons, you can shoot them like goons. and the city has no right to say dick about it.

if they are going to come politely knock on the door and serve a warrant and be civil, then yeah. it's on you if you take that personally.

@icedquinn

Yup, more or less points I brought up, and I agree (including the points I didnt make).

Yep.
Not all dispatchers just pass on the call.
I work for an ex Swat guy and his former dispatcher is currently in charge of registration for our firearms classes. Or I did until I screwed up and got careless with my lead exposure.
Maybe I still do. Suspended until further notice…..
Anyway, he tells how she used to have every possible piece of information available in their system on the subject of the call before he even got out of the car when on patrol.
