could you store information from polar coordinates as an array of arrays where the outermost array represents longitude while the innermost represents latitude such that the surrounding points local to any particular one were only an index away

@binkle depends on your definition of local, because only two points can be an index away from any particular one.

@Inginsub i should rephrase - one set of indices away from one another. So forward, backward, up and down if you're thinking 2 dimensionally

@binkle are you trying to map a cartesian grid to polar coordinates?

@Inginsub not in this case - just wrapping the latitude points around a sphere and throwing them into an array (with the totality of the latitude point arrays lining up in longitude)

the more I think about it the more it seems like it should be fine, provided you never need easy-to-access Cartesian and can deal in polar coordinates instead

@binkle No. I don't think so.
