IRC: there is kind of an objectively correct way to get some of the basic verbs working, god only knows what the other verbs actually do and they are probably not important actually. all you need to know is NICK, JOIN, PRIVMSG :neocat_woozy:

XMPP: :blobcatnerd: there are about twelve objectively correct ways to do everything. you probably need about 3 of them at a given moment, because god only knows what the hell your client thinks it is trying to do.
Matrix: there is only one server and we pretend there is a spec but its really just an API for synapse. none of the shit actually works like it should and there is a difficult to implement consensus algorithm that still doesn't fucking work at the end of the day. but let's all use it because JSON-RPC bitches! :ablobcatgooglytenor:
really the only things i would do to email, sip, irc and nntp is rejacket them in CBOR with proper packet framing. that would honestly solve the antiquation issues with them entirely.
