There are a few normal ppl on fedi that post interesting stuff but you're right. It's at best a tech nerd haven, but most ppl here are twitter rejects (I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing based on how it was, but still...). Nostr is actually becoming comparatively more normal but it's still a fringe thing.
Between certain people power tripping and others just wallowing in filth and being nutcases (pot calling kettle black but w/e I'll take it) it seems like this "social media alternative" experiment is doomed to failure.
@Owl@histoire@bot@zero@EllisDee The whole reason the fedi is popular at this point boils down to social media censorship (which was loosened just enough with Elon Musk: he still bans people like Kevin MacDonald and anyone who could actually be too subversive/is too notorious). All the instances are growing because someone was too insane or couldn't stay on Twitter, or they ended up with "throttled" interactions.
Bluesky is the same way, the only people on it are leftoids who want to do crazy shit.
The funny thing is being a huge retard paints a target on your back as an instance owner, and that jeopardizes your users as well.
It's bad enough being a bad user. When you're a bad administrator there's just that much more at stake when it comes to someone wanting to wreck your face.
Do they apply if the admin is in on it, or if it's a single user instance? Or hell, how many of these admins are cut out to deal with an FBI knock and talk?
You don't even need to post cheese pizza to get an admin to have to read a scary e-mail in the morning anymore. All you need to do is well; just post a threat at a government official or someone with just as much power.
This is exactly what was being used to gayop certain websites, and has been used on the fedi as well by someone almost certainly Alex Linder.
