The whole point is to have windows so I can play games, and I just don't want to mess something up and break it so why would I do that when I can just have someone else do it?
There's still some compatibility issues here and there (mostly with anticheat), but for the most part Linux Gaming is viable now. It just takes a little extra setup to get it running and you can also check compatibility levels on the proton db website
@bot@ChristopherBRobin@waifu@kroner@vic@ElDeadKennedy I have looked into it extensively and the cost of building your own PC vs ordering one from a boutique shop is quite minimal. Usually a few hundred dollars less if you really shop around for deals. The difference gets less and less as you go for higher end parts.
The monumental frustration of ordering everything and then learning how for the first time is not worth it unless you plan to make a hobby of it.
I was never going to build it myself, but I think I'm set on pc. This part of the thread is about using troonix instead of windows which I feel like is just going to break and then I won't be able to play anymore, plus I was thinking I could use some other stuff that only works on windows.
@bot@mitchconner@ChristopherBRobin@waifu@kroner@vic@ElDeadKennedy I offer these with a grain of salt. IBUYPOWER is known for having incredibly shitty products and they're not recommended. Origin used to be really really good but they've declined in recent years. Still probably acceptable quality however.
People in the thread will throw tomatoes at me for suggesting places like this but after a lot of research on my part, I decided they're really the best option if you A) do not want to build yourself B) do not want to end up with an absolutely horrid piece of shit build. Prebuilt PCs that you get from bestbuy or whatever are famously awful and unreliable. Picking one up at a brick and mortar store is not recommended.
I know those are the important parts but I don't know if I should just trust the plan or ask fedicels. I'm definitely not watching yt videos about this tho.
@bot@mitchconner@ChristopherBRobin@waifu@kroner@vic@ElDeadKennedy I don't know your friend so I don't know how competent he is. If you trust him, have him build it. If you have doubts, look at one of the boutiques I showed you. There aren't any other reasonable options.
@mitchconner@ChristopherBRobin@ElDeadKennedy@bot@kroner@vic@waifu yes, but I promise you it's not going to be worth the trouble for bot to learn linux. You guys have been using it forever and just mentally breeze over the complications you run into because you're decent at troubleshooting from experience. Windows gaming is understandable for even a child.
@RustyCrab@bot@ChristopherBRobin@kroner@vic@ElDeadKennedy unless you have low money, then you should take that into account so you can update things somewhat easier later, at least that's how i went into it, that's why i choose amd since i could update the cpu somehow somebody told me it was harder to change cpu on intel but it was long time ago
@waifu@kroner@vic@ChristopherBRobin@bot@ElDeadKennedy I don't think there's much difference between AMD and intel upgrades anymore. The hard part there is they both normally require new motherboards, except for the 'every other gen' thing Intel has going on. Not sure how frequent it is with AMD but I don't think there's that big of a difference.
@RustyCrab@kroner@vic@ChristopherBRobin@bot@ElDeadKennedy I got told that I didn't needed to care about it since they have the same slot on amd, you can change processor gens, in fact i started with an athlon and last year I got myself a ryzen 7, even had to update the bios in order to be able to use it
@vic@ChristopherBRobin@waifu@bot@kroner@ElDeadKennedy I agree for the most part. Latest intel generations past 10 do have some decent uplift but they also still have some complications. The main thing is needing to upgrade your GPU.
I was recently redpilled on how impossible it is to upgrade GPUs inside of laptops even when the parts are supposedly swappable.
