It still happens to people, at least when they "donate" directly, and even where the parties agreed not to hold each other accountable. Such agreement are void and the state has force child support to be paid.
I know a guy who directly donated to a lesbian couple, who are raising his son that he has never seen, and his wife and him have a open relationship, i.e. his wife gets fucked by other dudes while he's at home playing vidya.
I had to stop talking to him a long time ago. It's sad.
