@deprecated_ii >none of his children or grandchildren can afford anything other than instant noodles from Dollar Tree
>the chocolate-colored nouveau-riche are only interested in sports cars they see in MrBeast videos
"WHY IS THE CUSTOM CAR HOBBY DYING?? THE WEST IS COLLAPSING BILLIONS OF UNGRATEFUL BRATS MUST DIE"
@Spingebill@deprecated_ii the younger white people into "custom cars" also are more into completely different cars than boomers, usually shit they can actually afford or that costs less money to go fast in, or that they saw in Fast and Furious movies/video games/Initial D.
Or when they build engines, they're using far more modern and popular engines than AMC V8s.
@sapphire@Spingebill@deprecated_ii they're used in old school jeeps which people do give a shit about, but Jeep guys are also the type to swap in 1.9tdi alh/bew and om617 engines in as well
Also the pre 2006 jeep wranglers used variants of the AMC i6 and so did the xjs
@sapphire@Spingebill@deprecated_ii I don't think of the actual Jeeps as boomer cars as much as I do "redneck status symbol" given I live in Ohio and had a family member who had a Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited that screamed "pavement princess" for this reason before selling it.
The older ones? Yeah they actually see use because they're not being owned by those types.
@PurpCat@Spingebill@deprecated_ii I've never seen anyone younger than 50 in an older model Jeep unless it was a beat, barely running piece of shit. Offroaders moved on to the Land Cruiser ages ago. I've seen more 240gds than old jeeps that have seen love
I've just seen in my area the latest craze with these old Jeeps is to diesel swap them. Some guy with a piece of shit 300d around here was driving it only because he wanted to enjoy it for a bit before he pulled the engine for a Jeep build. Also he was younger, definitely a redneck too.
@deprecated_ii@Spingebill@sapphire Oh yeah I hear nothing but good things about the 4.0 unlike the 3.8 that replaced it, or the infamous EcoDiesel engine that is probably the worst modern US market diesel engine bar none.
@deprecated_ii@Spingebill@sapphire they're not throwing out the transmission/transfer case, just the engine (and usually because they want a diesel engine instead). The 1.9 TDI is a FWD engine originally, but there's also a market for RWD transmission adapters simply because of how popular it is to swap into trucks and whatnot.
I've seen a few new Jeeps with EcoDiesels (bad engine) and the Roxor "Jeeps" are diesel as well.
@PurpCat@Spingebill@deprecated_ii hard as fuck to kill sure but you're going to be doing something stupid with it every third weekend because like every other Volkswagen powerplant everything that isn't the short block is fucking retarded
@PurpCat@Spingebill@deprecated_ii@sapphire yep. Bad tensioners blowing up timing. Valves sticking with carbon. Turbos hemorrhaging oil. PCV clogging up. All before 80k miles.
@PurpCat@Spingebill@deprecated_ii@wingedhussar my TDI seems fine now that I’ve deleted everything around it that breaks. Just need a new second gear synchro and I’ll be good for tens of miles of trouble free driving
@wingedhussar@PurpCat@Spingebill@deprecated_ii lucky you, mine was pre-recall and it didn’t even blow, they just let the battery die and mistook a blown clutch for seized motor and tried to charge me 12 grand, I had to threaten to sue
@TeaTootler@Spingebill@deprecated_ii@sapphire i'm sure someone would drop a 350 chevy into a pacer too, shit there's people dropping LS engines into planes
@deprecated_ii A lot of "old farts" didn't want to properly encourage or train new young guys because they thought it meant training their replacement.
Now the time horizon of replacement is setting and I guess everybody will just send emails for a living...
@SpoopyAnon@deprecated_ii I won't give out too much detail but there are so many people with fake email jobs I'm running into that I'm asking how the fuck is this sustainable? with more mexican labor?
@SpoopyAnon@deprecated_ii imagine offering people less money for a job that takes skill, attention to detail, and effort throughout the day than folks could make by sending a couple emails, kinda-sorta listening to a zoom meeting, and then fucking off for the rest of the day
why would we take a pay cut to work in your machine shop? we've got better things to do, like watch vtubers
