honestly wonder what the part cost is on those op-1F's
i did a pricing evaluation on the old ones and i think the markup ended up being 100% or something like that, mostly because if you found comparable screens on ali they were 300$, blackfins are another like 10$, not sure about the custom plastic work.
the new one that they taped on another 600$ to the price though like :blobcatwaitwhat:
often when looking at expensive things i end up wondering how much they cost in parts :blobcatupsidedown: sometimes things just sort of cost what they need to. sometimes.
@icedquinn But even then the manufacturing expenses are a lot less due to manufacturing in batches and doing bulk orders from the suppliers rather than some retail part seller.
@susie it can be tricky to estimate costs when all i have to go with is public price sheets :neocat_woozy: maybe also intuit some based on what solder work i've done (or failed.)
one of the keyboards uses these surface mount LEDs and i dunno how to deal with them. i saw a little clip where someone was touching each side with heat and pushing it down but it didn't work for me. so assembly can also be part of the trouble.
an ifixit showed they were using cheap scissor keys though which is... ehh.
