In what is… Actually pretty fucking awful, it turns out that the Birmingham city council does not owe the 750 million in unpaid wages that has been bandied about, but could be as low as 250 million. The 750 million figure was apparently just conjured out of nothing????
Unfortunately, the city council and the Government’s stooge that’s now overseeing the city’s operation are acting as if the 750 million figure is real, and therefore the city’s budget has been culled and curtailed accordingly, including cuts to libraries, arts, social care, and flood defences.
So an imaginary figure that nobody is actually sure comes from some kind of economic truth is being used to justify some of the most insane austerity on this city :haggard:
